Meet Laura Patrick: Business Consultant

Did you know our very own Laura Patrick was a contestant on the South African version of Family Feud, hosted by Steve Harvey?

1. How long have you been with Bestmed?

I have just completed a year – 1 year and 2 months

2. What encouraged you to join Bestmed?

I have only heard great things about the company, the environment and culture. I wanted to be a part of an organization with such great values that I could also see myself retiring in.

Needless to say, upon joining and now that I have spent a year at Bestmed already, the narrative about the company has definitely been true.

3. Give us a short description about your role at Bestmed

I am a regional based Business Consultant, with a portfolio of brokerages and financial advisors based in KwaZulu Natal. My role is to create opportunity for new business and to market Bestmed Medical Aid as the Scheme of choice. In doing so, I train advisors by making sure that their product knowledge is at its peak and to provide them with support in ensuring a seamless experience with our tools and resources.

4. Give us a short bio about your career history

I went to Malvern Primary School and Marklands Secondary school. I then graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Howard College) in 2010 and without attending my graduation ceremony, jumped on a plane to the United Arab Emirates without any friends or family for a work opportunity that I found on the internet. Luckily, it was legit, and I spent two years in the marketing department, designing and editing the   communication for the hospitality group I worked for. I then returned to South Africa and, since then, worked for another medical aid, moving from different job roles until I finally secured a role as a Marketing Associate. I then found the most fitting role in Bestmed, and here I am.

5. Do you have any special skills?

Apart from only learning to fry an egg once I got married (makes sense because I don’t eat eggs), I have developed a skill for baking foolproof chocolate chip cookies. That’s as far as it goes with regard to any special skills.

6. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself

I come from a large family and have 3 brothers and 2 sisters. I am lucky number 5 but apart from that I can make a unique dolphin noise – this does not encourage you to ask me to make that noise.
