Dis-Chem, one of Bestmed’s designated pharmacy providers, has launched a COVID-19 vaccination booking portal that is currently live on the Dis-Chem website. This bookings portal is only open to medical scheme members who have successfully registered on the National Department of Health’s (NDoH's) Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS). The portal allows members to select a booking slot at a Dis-Chem vaccination site of their choice. EVDS Registration

Please be sure to register on the Department of Health’s EVDS at https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za/#/. Registration is mandatory before members can make a booking on the Dis-Chem vaccine booking portal. Members can also register by dialling *134*832# or via WhatsApp by sending the word ‘REGISTER’ to 0600 123 456.

COVID Vaccination Sites

Dis-Chem is only doing COVID vaccinations at specified sites. The sites are not located in the actual Dis-Chem pharmacy but are temporary sites in the shopping centres where the Dis-Chem pharmacies are situated. COVID-19 Vaccination FAQs

  1. Is Dis-Chem accepting walk-ins?

Dis-Chem vaccination sites are accepting walk-ins as far as capacity allows. Members with bookings take priority.

  1. Which vaccination is Dis-Chem administering?

Currently, Dis-Chem is administering the two-dose Pfizer vaccination.

  1. Can members make a booking for their vaccination even if they have not received an SMS from the EVDS?

As long as they are registered on EVDS it is not a pre-requisite to have received an SMS.

  1. What if a member has received an SMS from EVDS but the allocated site or time is not suitable for the member?

Bestmed members can still make a booking on the Dis-Chem COVID vaccinations booking portal and have their vaccination done at a Dis-Chem site that is convenient for them.

  1. Can teachers get their vaccination at Dis-Chem?

EVDS specifies which vaccine a member is eligible for, teachers who are registered by the Department of Education for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine must go to the specified site where the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is being administered.

  1. When do members get their second dose of the vaccine?

Members can get their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine 42 days after their initial vaccine.

  1. Will members be required to go to the same facility where they received the first Pfizer vaccine dose?

No. Members can choose any Dis-Chem vaccination site for their second dose even if they did not receive their first dose at a Dis-Chem vaccination site.

  1. Will walk-ins be accepted at a Dis-Chem vaccination site for the second Pfizer vaccine dose?

Yes, they will be accepted 42 days after the members initial vaccine dose, however, priority will be given to those who have a booking.

  1. Will Dis-Chem send an SMS notification to members after 42 days?

Members will receive an SMS from Dis-Chem as well as the EVDS. However, members are more than welcome to book their second dose at a Dis-Chem vaccination site once they receive the SMS, even if the EVDS notification refers them to a different vaccination site.

  1. Are members required to wait until the EVDS system sends out an SMS informing them they are eligible for the second dose?

This is not a requirement. Dis-Chem has launched a new booking facility on their website (details above) which will allow Bestmed members to book a vaccination slot 42 days after receiving their first Pfizer vaccination dose.

  1. Will members be required to go to the same facility as where they received the first vaccine?

Members on a medical aid can choose any Dis-Chem vaccination site even if they did not receive their first dose at a Dis-Chem.

  1. Will walk-ins be accepted after 42 days for their second vaccine at a Dis-Chem site?

Yes, they will be accepted however, priority will be given to those who have a booking.

Dis-Chem will be ready to welcome all medical aid members over the age of 50 who choose to get vaccinated and are registered on EVDS from 1 July 2021. All over 60’s and registered healthcare workers are already eligible to register for their vaccination.
